If you take a rough half-way point along an imaginary line between Marseille and Bordeaux, that's us! Massar is a small hamlet situated 10kms west of the town of Villefranche de Rouergue in the département of Aveyron (12), and a similar distance east of Limogne in the département of the Lot (46). We're about half-way between Cahors (W) and Rodez (E). Our nearby village of Martiel (an easy 1.5km cycle ride away) has a post office, school, bakery, grocery and bar/restaurant. 10 years ago this was one of the most inaccessible parts of France. Nothing could be further from the truth today, with convenient choices of motorways, air and rail services. Motorways The Paris-Toulouse A20 autoroute runs close to Cahors, putting the channel ports within an uncongested 7 hour drive. Alternatively, the Paris-Montpellier A75 runs via Millau in the east of the Aveyron. We can provide details of all sorts of enjoyable options for breaking the journey down. French hotels offer incredible choice and value for money. Air Numerous airlines, many of them low-cost, now fly to Toulouse (90 mins drive) from a range of British airports. RyanAir's low-cost service between Rodez (45 minutes from us) and Stansted is extremely convenient, and Bergerac, just over 2 hours west in the Perigord, offers numerous low-cost options. All offer competitively-priced car hire deals. Rail Combining car and rail is now possible using French Rail's motorail sleeper service, which runs from Calais to Brive, 90 mins drive away. For all-the-way rail travel, the high speed TGV runs from London Waterloo via Lille or Paris to Toulouse, with an onward connection to Villefranche. There is also a nightly sleeper service connecting Villefranche with Paris gare d'Austerlitz.
